<br/>The advancement of modern molecular and macromolecular organic chemistry is intimately linked with the development of organometallic/inorganic homogeneous precatalysts.<sup> </sup>Although the use of catalysis is an important tool for sustainable synthesis, the majority of organometallic precatalysts are made by conventional, unsustainable routes encompassing multiple reaction steps, each with their respective solvent and energy intensive work-up procedures. Thus, the ability to apply sustainable principles to the synthesis of homogeneous catalysts represents a more complete approach to green chemistry. Notably, Schiff base ligands in support of their resulting inorganic/organometallic coordination compounds represent a broad and ubiquitous class of precatalyst molecules with numerous applications ranging from drug design to materials chemistry. This presentation highlights our recent efforts on the sustainable, solvent-free, one-pot mechanochemical synthesis of imino-pyridine type Schiff base ligands and related transition-metal coordination compounds relevant to catalysis.
