Dendrimers and other highly-branched macromolecules are attractive materials for drug delivery, pollution remediation, electronics, and sensor technologies. Yet, dendrimer synthesis frequently produces significant waste due to chromatographic purification procedures. Research in our group focuses on developing dendrimer synthetic methods with minimal waste production. The aldol condensation of 4’4-bicyclohexanone and various aryl aldehydes is being explored as an efficient synthetic method for dendrimer scaffolds. The resulting aldol condensation product is a novel structure presenting four vectors for functionalization in a three-dimensional array. Because the aldol condensation of cyclohexanones with aryl aldehydes are high yielding and require no chromatographic purification, this approach will be part of a more efficient and sustainable route to producing dendrimers. Preliminary results involving synthetic optimization and product characterization will be discussed.    <br/>
