TAMIUACS is the American Chemical Society student chapter at Texas A&M International University, a Hispanic-serving institution (94% Hispanic) located in the border town of Laredo, TX. The TAMIU ACS Student Chapter has managed to stand as a successful student organization and increase its membership over the years. To increase member recruitment and retention, the chapter introduced a strong recruitment campaign during the first weeks of the semester and throughout summer orientation camps. In addition, the organization started requiring students to become ACS Members. The expectation was that students, now belonging to both the local chapter and the national society, would show more commitment towards the organization. In accordance with its mission of promoting science and giving back to our 96% Hispanic community, the chapter has recently partnered with The Outlet Shoppes at Laredo to host a bilingual outreach event during the month of December, planning to become a reoccurring community outreach collaboration. At this event, TAMIU ACS Student Chapter will engage local children and adults in a series of chemistry demonstrations and other chemistry activities in both English and Spanish. This poster will report the outcome of this promising activity as well as the effectiveness of the measures adopted to increase chapter membership retention and student participation.<br/>
