Patients undergoing chemotherapy often exhibit diminished cognitive function, referred to as “chemobrain”.  Carboplatin, used frequently in chemotherapy, is thought to be part of the cause as a significant number of patients report symptoms. This cognitive decline affects visual and verbal memory, problem solving skills, motor function, and attention.  Studies by Kaplan, et al, have indicated a change in dopamine uptake rate in rats treated with carboplatin of less than 60% of the control.  Through the use of an artificial receptor, first synthesized by Ahn  and coworkers and reported here, binding studies with cyclobutane-1,1-dicarboxylic acid will utilize UV/Vis and <sup>1</sup>H NMR spectroscopy to determine both mode and strength of interactions.   This talk will focus on design and synthesis of the small molecule mimic of the D2 receptor and future plans.<br/>
