Roanoke College uses lab notebook quizzes with a goal of enhancing student learning and providing easy assessment of laboratory notebook recordkeeping.  Laboratory students take a quiz several times per semester that asks them to identify (and circle) information that should be in the past weeks’ lab notebook entries.  Feedback is fast, because students know immediately if their recordkeeping was sufficient, and easy to check.<br/><br/>We will report preliminary data from an ongoing study (1) that compares recordkeeping in General Chemistry sections that use a notebook quiz with sections that do not (n=123) and (2) that assesses improvement in notebook recordkeeping over the semester in an upper-division biochemistry course (n=36).
