This study explores the interplay between the student and home identities of first year chemistry students. Research shows that individuals are composites of multiple intersecting social identities which impact each other and may have consequences on students’ performance, their social connections and future outlook. To gain insight into these identities, we surveyed first and second semester general chemistry students and selected six participants to interview about the centrality and salience of their student and home identities.  This presentation explores the degree to which each of these identities is present and discusses the implications of the interrelationships between identities on students’ life goals using an analogical outcome space.
