Carbohydrate based molecular self-assemblies are important classes of new materials with many potential applications. Carbohydrates have received a great deal of attention as building blocks to achieve functional supramolecular self-assemblies due to their renewability, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and structural diversity. Our lab has been working on the design, sythesis, and study of various carbohydrate derivatives and we have obtained new and advanced functional molecular systems with many potential biological applications. Recently, we found multimeric glycotriazole conjugates functionalized with peracetylated glucose or glucosamine moieties to be effective supramolecular gelators. They are capable of forming supramolecular structures through self-assembly in a variety of solvents including alcohols and aqueous mixtures of ethanol and DMSO. In this study, we have synthesized a series hybrid glycoclusters and glycolipids utilizing various monosaccharides, dendritic lengths and functional groups. This presentation will report our recent progress in the synthesis of glycolipids and glycoclusters with varying carbohydrate moieties, along with the study of their self-assembling properties.<br/>
