<br/>Iron and manganese cations are known to readily accommodate a range of coordination environments. Chemists can harness this reactivity to achieve a range of goals. For example, monomeric non-heme iron complexes can access high valent Fe-O states and are catalysts for O-atom transfer and C-C coupling reactions. Likewise, dimeric manganese complexes with a Mn2O2 core are catalysts for water oxidation chemistry. Here we report the controlled synthesis, isolation, and catalytic activity of monomeric, dimeric, and trimeric iron and manganese complexes using tetraazamacrocyclic ligands. Factors that impact the isolation of a monomer, dimer, or trimer will be described as well as the characterization of each complex. Catalytic reactions (C-C coupling, hydrogen atom transfer, catalase mimicry, and water oxidation chemistry)  with the appropriate complexes will also be presented.
