This poster will focus on the synthesis of a phosphino pyrrole starting material as a gateway into multidentate (pincer and tripodal) ligands with a pyrrolyl-derived backbone. Synthesis of pincer and tripodal ligands featuring a pyrrole-derived backbone allows for modification of electronic properties of central donor atoms with limited changes in the sterics of the resultant complexes as compared to their phenyl backbone analogues. The synthesis of pincer and tripodal ligands with various central donors such as silicon and phosphorus will also be presented. Last, the structure of a variety of complexes featuring the pyrrole-derived backbone will discussed as well as the catalytic activity of these complexes for reaction such as dehydrogenative borylation of terminal alkynes.
