Radical molecules are being synthesized in order to investigate doublet state photophysics and their potential to fluoresce with 100% efficiency.  Normal organic luminophores are inefficient due to interference between the singlet and triplet states.  Organic radical luminophores are theorized to eliminate this interference through emission from one state, which would produce one wavelength of light.  Applications of the radical luminophore are in organic-light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and screen technology.  The molecule synthesized was α,γ-Bisdiphenylene-β-anthracenylallyl, or BDAA, which is a derivative of BDPA, a known, stable radical.  Anthracene is a known luminescent molecule.  Anthracene was substituted onto the framework of BDPA in hopes of creating a stable, luminescent radical.  Isolation of the radical allowed for analysis of its properties by fluorimetry and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy.  Fluorescence emission, fluorescence decay, EPR spectra, and EPR spin quantization data will be presented.
