Diversifying the STEM workforce is a national priority that will only be achieved through participation from leadership at all levels to translate research into practical policies. The importance of this challenge is recognized by various initiatives, including: NSF INCLUDES, NSF programs targeting Hispanic Serving Institutions, and efforts from the NIH Office of Scientific Workforce Diversity. The Research Corporation Cottrell Scholar program has been promoting the teacher-scholar model for over 20 years, and many Cottrell Scholars are now serving in academic leadership positions. In 2017, the Cottrell Scholar annual meeting focused on inclusive excellence in STEM, and as an outcome of that meeting, a coalition of academic leaders pledged to promote evidenced-based policies to increase diversity and inclusion. This Discussion Panel, led by the coalition of leaders, will focus on the outcomes of this pledge, including: leveraging research in STEM diversity into reform efforts, structural changes that are foundational for increasing diversity, and benefits of an increasingly diverse workforce to STEM research. Four presentations (10 minutes) will establish the context and landscape followed by a 60 minute discussion period.<br/>
