Haunglonbing, citrus greening, is the most destructive disease to citrus industry. It is caused by the bacterium, Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus and transmitted by the Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri. Recent studies suggested that antibiotics can inhibit the growth of the pathogen in Planta. In current study, we investigated the uptake and translocation of streptomycin in citrus. Streptomycin was delivered via root drenching and its level in various tissues was monitored using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and high-performance liquid chromatography. The highest level was found in roots followed by xylem then phloem then leaves. Additionally, streptomycin was detected in D. citri fed on treated plants and the survival was assessed. We found that, streptomycin has a negative effect on the fitness and lifespan of psyllid. Gathering information about the delivered amount, the distribution and stability of antibiotics in citrus trees is essential for designing an effective program to control the disease.
