Once cancer reaches a certain stage and begins metastasizing throughout the body, the general approach for treatment include radiation and chemotherapy. Through the development of photoreactive compounds, such as boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes, cancer cells can be detected at an early stage, which improves the chances for successful treatment. After synthesizing various BODIPY derivatives, column chromatography was used to isolate the targeted compound. The molecules were then characterized using UV-Vis, fluorescence, and 1-H NMR spectroscopy.
