The Green Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society at the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamon (ACS-UPRB) objective is to educate about the basics of green chemistry and its importance in our lives. Therefore, the division’s goal is accomplished by the appliance of the twelve principles of green chemistry and encouraging our community to expand their knowledge and creativeness to implement different approaches to overcome human’s negative impact on Earth. Last year, our division counted with thirty-two members and was focused on demonstrating how to create daily products with less hazardous and/or toxic components, implementing green chemistry in the laboratory of different regional schools and producing informative videos about how people can apply the twelve principles in their daily lives. Subsequently, this year with forty-six members, our goal is to continue those projects, expanding our impact in communities all around Puerto Rico. Also, the division will continue to educate our university’s community about the advances in renewable energy, and the use of natural materials to minimize chemical waste. The ACS-UPRB green chemistry division has continued to reach student from ages of 3 to 25+ and professors from other departments in our campus about ways of incorporating green chemistry in their daily activities and its importance. In these two years we have influenced approximately 453 students. Moreover, one of our futures aspirations is to create a green chemistry garden in the university, using renewable raw materials. Furthermore, we will expose the members through webinars and the discussion of scientific articles on related topics and advances in green chemistry. Finally, the green chemistry division in our campus will continue bringing knowledge and awareness of green chemistry for the benefit of humanity and Earth.
