Cyclometallated π-allyliridium C,O-benzoate complexes have been shown to catalyze diverse alcohol-mediated carbonyl allylations using allyl carboxylate pronucleophiles. Recently, the same air and water stable π-allyliridium C,O-benzoate catalyst, catalyzes highly regio-and enantioselective Tsuji-Trost type aminations of branched alkyl-substituted allylic acetates using primary amines, secondary amines, anilines, and indoles in high yields and asymmetric induction. These reactions represent the first examples of asymmetric amphiphilic reactivity in the context of transition metal catalysis.
