The use of flow chemistry was investigated to synthesize amino acids. The excellent kinetic control of flow chemistry was used to include <sup>15</sup>N in amino acids starting with primitive reagents containing isotopically enriched nitrogen. The use of simple 15N sources was a cost effective alternative to purchasing more complex labelling reagents. This work also investigates the use of flow chemistry for it’s excellent kinetic control to maximizes the enantiomeric excess of the L – isomer while using sugars to promote chiral selectivity.
