One of the leading causes of mortality in the world is cardiovascular disease (CVD). In order to decrease this statistic, appropriate treatment, prevention, and diagnoses need to be addressed. Our novel bioanalytical method uses an established anion-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography (AEX-HPLC) technique to analyze the presence of major lipoprotein subclasses in human serum. We present the feasibility of fluorescence quantification of human serum albumin and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) using NBD C<sub>6</sub>-ceramide, a fluorescent lipid probe that selectively associates with the major lipoprotein subclasses and serum proteins. This methodology will be useful in investigating disorders involving albumin and other dyslipidemias to aid in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of CVD.
