Organic solar cells are a type of photovoltaic system that shows promise for a cheap and environmentally friendly source of energy by converting solar light into usable energy. Solar efficiency is the largest limiting factor that is preventing the use of organic solar cells over synthetic solar panels. Studies of priority include the most efficient dye, solvent, electrolyte mixture, and means of prolonging the lifespan of the solar cells. A paste made of titanium dioxide (TiO<sub>2</sub>) was spread onto the surface of the conductive glass slides. Dyes extracted from various plant groups that contain carboxylic acids and phosphonic acids were spread onto the TiO<sub>2 </sub>paste to absorb sunlight. A quasi-solid state electrolyte was prepared to increase the flow of electrons through the cells. The counter electrode was coated with a layer of graphite to act as a catalyst, and the produced current will be measured using a multimeter. The goal of this research was to increase solar efficiency and lifespan of the cell using the quasi-solid state electrolyte mixture.
