A polysaccharide material has, intrinsic to its chemistry, the ability to bring water management and hydrophilicity. Another intrinsic feature to enzymatic polymerization of engineered polysaccharides is the ability to generate a highly micro and nanostructured material. These materials are valued relative to their open micro-nano porosity (as ink receiving layer in water based ink jet coating) for paper coatings.<br/>In this presentation, we will cover the basic material characteristics of enzymatically polymerized alpha 1,3 glucan and the implication of this microstructure for paper coating. We will cover the improvement in image quality as measured by printing optical density, color bleed and mottle.  Moreover, the improved print quality is achieved without sacrificing print dry time, an important performance parameter for industrial scale printing operations.<br/>
