The Loras College chemistry club sponsors several events throughout the year directed towards educating middle school and high school students, as well as involving college students in the ACS program at Loras. This is done through several events, such as the Chemistry Olympics, which is an opportunity for high school students to apply their chemistry skills in order to compete for scholarships. For Loras College students, a barbeque social is held at the beginning of the year where faculty and club officers provide a free potluck style social event for new first-year students to become better acquainted with the club, and for the upper classman to begin mentoring the underclassman. At the end of each school year, the chemistry club hosts an end of the year party to gather the students and professors to celebrate the club's accomplishments. Over the past few years, the Loras college chemistry club has begun venturing off campus to continue educating Dubuque's youth about the STEM field. This was done primarily through the walking classroom, or a mentoring installment led by the officers and club members at a local elementary school. These experiences have taught club members how to communicate science in an understandable way, and also to recognize the importance of introducing kids to STEM at earlier ages.
