This article introduces a new electrorheological fluid. Octasilsesquioxanes (T<sub>8</sub>) are the most important group of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS). Previous research has shown the routes available for the POSS synthesis and also the significant ER activity of the particles in silicone oil when electric field is applied to its rheology. It is shown for the first time the ER behavior of a synthesized octa-functionalized POSS variant. The hydrolysation route has been used in the synthesis, the microstructure displayed in a SEM image, the yield ascertained and the compound characterized by FTIR and dielectric measurements. The rheological properties is demonstrated through steady flow and oscillatory tests to investigate the effects of change in concentration, electric field strength, shear thinning behavior, temperature on the functional group attached to the inorganic silicon-oxygen core structure of the POSS compound. The electrorheological efficiency was also analyzed. The flow curve was described by the Herschel-Bulkley model and the Yield stress values derived from the model. The Octa-cyanoPOSS has been shown to have some ER activity.
