Platinum is (still) the most used electrocatalytic material., Stabilty of platinum under various (electrochemical) conditions is key to its prolonged usuge. Using a variety of (in situ) imaging techniques, we show how the platinum electrode surface restructures under anodic as wel as cathodic conditions. We link these changes to the surface chemistry taking place, based on in situ spectroscopy and first-principles denisty functional theory calculations.
