The purpose of this study is to evaluate the heavy metal adsorption efficiency in the aqueous solution with changes of pH and different adsorption time by using zeolite and bentonite that collected from the natural environments. In this study, zeolite and bentonite samples were used as adsorbents and adsorption experiment was performed on As, Cd, Zn, Pb, Cu and Mn in aqueous solution. For characterize the zeolite and bentonite used in the experiment, stereomicroscope and XRD analysis were performed. ICP analysis was performed to measure the heavy metal concentration in the solution before and after the adsorption. The results of X-ray diffraction analysis, zeolite and bentonite consist of clinoptilolite and montmorillonite, respectively. Adsorption experiments were carried out by adding 0.1 g of adsorbent to 100 ml of mixed solution of 10 mg/L of As, Cd, Zn, Pb, Cu, and Mn and reacting for 24 hours at pH 3, 6 and 9. When the pH was increased without adding the adsorbent in initial heavy metal concentration of 10 mg/L, the concentration of Zn, As, Cd, and Cu in the aqueous solution decreased about 2.36-17.31% and 69.41% at pH 6, respectively. As increased to pH 9 in aqueous solution, As, Cd, Zn, Pb, Cu are reduced over 90% except 70.10% of Mn. As increasing the pH, the concentration of heavy metals decreases in no adsorbent state. As a result of the adsorption efficiency evaluation, arsenic shows below 20% efficiency regardless of pH value and adsorbent type. The efficiency of cadmium by adsorbent is about 70% at pH 3 and 90% at pH 6 and 9. The adsorption efficiency of arsenic shows low but cadmium is high at pH 6 and 9.
