This presentation features an overview of the synthesis and characterization of several series of silver(I) complexes supported by N-heterocyclic thione (NHT) and selone (NHSe) ligands. More specifically, NHT and NHSe ligands bearing bulky aryl substituents on their nitrogen atoms have been used to synthesize rare examples of mononuclear, two-coordinate complexes of silver(I). In a similar vein, NHT and NHSe ligands derived from caffeine have been used to isolate several two-, three-, and four-coordinate species depending on substituent effects and reaction conditions. The biological (anticancer) activity of several of these silver complexes will also be outlined in this presentation.
