An overview of the current carbon fiber and composite materials research taking place at Deakin University’s Carbon Nexus research facility will be presented. Carbon Nexus at the Institute for Frontier Materials, is a cutting-edge open-access carbon fiber and composites research facility located in Geelong, Australia. The facility houses two carbon fiber processing lines that allow researchers to investigate new methods for manufacturing carbon fiber which aim to lower energy inputs, maximise output, and increase fiber performance. The lines are also available for industrial partners to validate new technologies at industrial scale. With a focused research program driven by a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, the goals of Carbon Nexus include reducing the cost of carbon fiber production and composites manufacture while increasing performance.
