Incorporation of Alkali and Alkaline-Earth metals into electronic thin films through deposition methods such as MOCVD requires metal-precursor materials that exhibit thermal stability and low volatility. Ligand type is critical for influencing these physical properties, especially for metals with low charge to size ratio that tend toward aggregation. Pincer ligands that coordinate to the metal through multiple sites can enhance stability of the resulting complex through the chelate effect. Furthermore, nitrogen-based pincer ligands are targeted here because oxo-ligands can lead to unwanted aggregation through the formation of metal-oxo bridges as well as incorporation of oxide in the final film material.<br/>Synthesis of the N,N,N-pincer ligand 2,5-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazolylmethyl)pyrrole was achieved through modified literature procedure. However, attempts to synthesize Alkali and Alkaline-Earth metal complexes of 2,5-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazolylmethyl)pyrrole consistently resulted in ligand decomposition, despite a wide variety of synthetic routes employed: alkane elimination, salt elimination, direct metalation, and redox transmetallation protolysis. The mechanism of ligand decomposition is investigated through NMR, XRD, and MS analysis of the reaction products. The resulting decomposition products are desirable materials for MOVCD applications, and their characteristics are presented.<br/>
