This work presents a novel method to achieve the reductive titanocene-catalyzed epoxide opening. The ability of chromium hydride CpCr(CO)3H to act as both a hydrogen atom transfer catalyst and proton source and the reducing capability of chromium anion [CpCr(CO)3]- allow us to eliminate the stoichiometric use of hydrogen atom donor, reductant and acid. The use of H2 as the only stoichiometric reagent gives perfect atom economy. Each step in the catalytic has been experimentally proven to be feasible.
