The Muddy River, located near several Boston-based colleges, including Simmons University, has offered undergraduates a number of opportunities to be actively involved in many aspects of environmental science.  For more than a decade, chemistry and biology students have monitored the health of this river through the lenses of their disciplines.  An annual “Muddy River Research Symposium” provides an opportunity for undergraduates, high school students, and neighborhood groups to come together to discuss the challenges and successes in creating a sustainable stewardship for this very special ecosystem.  This talk describes the breadth of opportunities this resource offers to students with an emphasis on several applications for environmental chemistry.<br/>
