The potential utility of metal-organic frameworks in heterogeneous catalysis stems not from their similarity with zeolites, but rather from the distinct differences that exist between MOFs and zeolites or, indeed, any other solid catalysts. Here, we will discuss the approaches that allow the introduction of molecular catalytic moieties within MOFs and the applications of the unique coordination environments afforded by the various MOF scaffolds in catalysis. In particular, we will focus on reactions of potential industrial significance such as the production of commodity chemicals that are currently made from large-scale homogeneous catalysis processes.<br/>
