The consumption of natural resources have been used up so fast due to advancement in living standards, the available fossil fuels are expected to last for only a few decades. This undue exploitation of these resources has led to serious problems. Among them the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere is considered as most serious problem. Important greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane attracted the attention of researchers. These are considered as cheap C1 source for chemical production. Further, researchers are interested to conduct chemical reaction between these greenhouse gases to produce syngas. In the present study, Ni supported on Sr modified lantana and ceria mixed oxide catalysts were prepared and evaluated for CO2-steam reforming of methane. The role of Sr on Ni dispersion, basicity of the catalyst and their influence in reforming activity is studied. The catalysts were prepared by using incipient wetness impregnation method by using nickel nitrate precursor. Catalysts are characterized with different spectroscopic techniques. These catalysts are evaluated for CO2-steam reforming of methane. The catalysts are characterized by TPR, Laser Raman, XRD and surface area. The activity of the catalysts are conducted with a feed ratio of CH4:CO2:H2O:N2=1:1:0.4:1 (Figure 2). The12NL catalyst showed about 40% of methane conversion at low temperature and with the increase in temperature the conversion is also gradually increased and reached to 77%. With small addition of Sr enhanced the catalytic activity to 89% at 800 °C. The addition of Sr to Ce the catalytic activity increased to 43% for 12NCS catalyst. The activity profiles of the catalysts are explained based on physico-chemical characteristics derived from various spectroscopic techniques. The catalysts are also studied at different reaction conditions and optimum reaction parameters were established.
