Dental polymers are widely used in the creation of dentures, teeth repair, and are most commonly known for their use in fillings. Fillings using photo-polymers react when exposed to UV-light between 400-500 nm and are defined by their distinctive ability to match the colors of real teeth using inorganic fillers that further enhance the polymer’s durability. Previous research showed that filler had a direct impact on a polymer’s physical properties. Herein, this research is framed for the creation of an undergraduate organic chemistry lab where students would explore the periodic trend of cationic radii’s effect of inorganic fillers on the strength of polymers made using photo-initiated radical polymerization.
