In 2017, the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at the University of Michigan-Flint became signers of Beyond Benign’s Green Chemistry Commitment. This provided our chapter access to Green activity ideas and provided great networking opportunities. In the 2017-18 academic year, our Chemistry Club recommitted to earning a Green Chapter Award, a distinction we had only been able to achieve once before. We will discuss the different ways we incorporated green chemistry demos into our programs and effective modification of presentation methods based on the audience. The club used demos on ocean acidification, biomimicry, and Sharklet plastics to build a comprehensive program applicable to grades 2-7. Students did hands-on activities to demonstrate the topics, followed by a discussion on the connection to green chemistry principles.
