Calcium cobalt oxide compounds were synthesized by mixing various ratios of calcium carbonate and cobalt oxide powders with compositions centered on a 3:4 calcium:cobalt molar ratio. Samples were annealed in a box furnace at systematically increasing temperatures. X-ray diffraction patterns were gathered on each reaction mixtures following annealing to explore the structural evolution taking place. Diffraction patterns of the different ratios were compared to explore the influence of the composition on the structure. After formation of the final products, powders were pressed into pellets, followed by a final annealing step. The electrical resistivity and Seebeck coefficient were then measured on each pellet in order to determine how the electrical properties were affected by the compositional variations.
