The Centenary College Chemistry Club is comprised of students who wish to share our passion for chemistry with other students and the community. In celebration of National Chemistry Week, we constructed a Periodic Table of Cupcakes display to distribute to members of campus. The popular program had many students and professors excited to receive cupcakes of their favorite elements. We also worked with the local American Chemistry Society section to provide an annual outreach event for National Chemistry Week. Our chemistry club has additional annual traditions outside of National Chemistry Week as well. Members of the faculty open their homes to students in the fall for a waffle brunch and in the winter for a progressive dinner. Our second outreach event is the Chemistry and Physics Circus in partnership with the Physics Department and Admissions Office. At this event, current students, prospective students, and faculty learn from demonstrations performed by chemistry club members and professors. We also plan to hold a Dippin’ Dot demonstration and attend the National ACS Meeting in the spring. We hope to hold more campus programs in the future to spread basic chemical knowledge throughout the student body.
