Research on two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials is rising to an unprecedented height, with continuous discovery of new phenomena and exciting applications from this intriguing material family. Beyond discovering candidate materials and studying their intrinsic properties, rational engineering of 2D nanomaterials into designed structures with optimal properties has become a critically important direction in this field. Advances in structural engineering of 2D nanomaterials have demonstrated its ability to drive device performance to a new level in a variety of practical applications. In this talk I will discuss several important strategies to provide insights into application-specific tailoring of material properties, and focus on our recent progress in developing interlayer engineering and porosity engineering of 2D nanomaterials for improving energy storage devices such as Li-ion batteries, Na-ion batteries, and beyond.<br/>
