The development of methods to new metal-oxo clusters of various nuclearities continues to be an active area of research that has led to an array of species with relevance to fields from chemistry to materials science. Some of these clusters attract great interest because of their structural similarities either to biological units, such as the oxygen evolving complex of photosynthesis, or bulk materials such as the perovskites. In our group, the use of manganese, with its various stable paramagnetic oxidation states (II-IV), in metal-oxo-carboxylate chemistry has led to numerous clusters with fascinating structural features and intriguing physical properties, e.g., single-molecule magnetism. Although considerable progress has also been achieved in the development of heterometallic manganese-oxo clusters, few of these contain manganese and a heavy main group metal such as bismuth or lead. The largest of these clusters, BiMn<sub>10</sub>, was reported by our group in 2011. In this presentation, we shall describe recent efforts to develop higher nuclearity Bi/Mn/O and Pb/Mn/O cluster chemistry, which have led to some new clusters having structural relevance to bulk metal oxides. The preparation, crystal structures, and magnetic properties of these products will be described.<br/>
