A study into the synthesis of a hexavalent glycodendrimers has been conducted. The ability for glycodendrimers to exhibit the multivalent effect allow them to mimic interactions between proteins and receptors in nature. The multivalent effect refers to the interaction of multiple groups on one molecule with multiple receptors on another. In present research, a hexavalent dendrimer created through a divergent synthetic pathway was coupled to different oligosaccharides, creating novel glycodendrimers. The glycosylation of the dendrimer core was conducted using a microwave-assisted reaction. By using this method, the reaction time decreased, and yields have increased compared to traditional reactions. The methodologies developed through this project will be incorporated into the efficient syntheses of further novel glycodendrimers. It is the goal of this project that the glycodendrimers created will have numerous biological applications
