<br/>This presentation provides an overview of a climate change pop-up learning community (PLC) convened with general education students in chemistry, communications, earth science, and philosophy courses. The overall goal of the event was to allow students to engage with each other about this global challenge while gaining practice in implementing skills that will be of use to them as students, professionals, and citizens. In addition to interdisciplinary roundtable discussions, the event included facilitator modeling of disciplinary perspectives to climate change denial artifacts, as well as an improv exercise to develop students’ verbal communication skills. The student assessment data from the event indicate a positive shift in participants’ confidence levels in effectively responding in writing and verbally with others, including those who hold opposite views, about climate change. Analysis of qualitative data regarding the variety of factors that impacted students’ confidence in addressing climate change and their views of the event will be presented, along with the assessment of their final reflection essays using the AAC&U Integrative Learning VALUE rubric.
