In this talk, I will present recent insights from computations and experiments into the mechanism of bisphosphine-iron and photoredox-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond formations. This work highlights the power of combining both strategies to study highly unstable and reactive species. Implications toward reaction, reagent, and catalyst design principles will be discussed.
