Electronic textiles (E-textiles) have received numerous attention due to their potential applications in the future. This research is to develop highly-conductive silk fibroin electrochromic nanofibers with desired mechanical properties for use in E-textiles. Electrospinning process was utilized to obtain silk fibroin fibers with controlled morphologies. The conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) polymer was introduced to increase the conductivity of the resulting composite fibers. Furthermore, incorporating electroactive tetraaniline in nanofibers not only improved their mechanical properties but also enabled them to be electroactive. The developed composite nanofibers have the capability to change their colors by adjusting the applied voltage or pH value and thus provide a new material for developing fibers for use in E-textiles.
