(Z)-1,1,1,4,4,4-Hexafluoro-2-butene (Opteon™ 1100) and  (E)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene (Opteon™ 1150) are the next generation foam expansion agents with low GWP and zero ODP developed by Chemours. To introduce the products to the market and customers, Chemours developed a novel one step process which directly couples 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane by Cu to co-produce both (Z) and (E)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene.  An efficient catalyst was discovered and it was found that using an aprotic solvent is also essential. Through the optimization of reaction conditions, (Z) and (E)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene were produced in high selectivity and yield.<br/> <br/>
