Previous work has demonstrated that poly(dimethylsiloxane) end-terminated with 2,2'-bipyridine can be effectively crosslinked with iron(II) tetrafluoroborate to yield an elastic material at room temperature.  Upon heating, a rubber-to-liquid transition is observed using oscillating shear-rheometry.  In this study, the rubber-to-liquid transition is further investigated using time-temperature superposition to better ascertain the effective time scale of the metal-coordination complex crosslinks.  Furthermore, termperature-dependent UV-vis studies are used to demonstrate that the nature of the rubber-to-liquid transition is ligand-exchange rather than complex dissociation at high temperatures.
