We are interested developing solution-phase reactions to make phase pure nanoparticles of ternary and quaternary nanoparticles for applications in photovoltaics.  Nanocrystal synthesis is one area of synthetic solid-state chemistry that is currently experiencing an explosion of deepening understanding and increasing sophistication, with a goal toward developing more predictive paths toward compositionally complex materials with specific properties. Here we will discuss the syntheses of iron and copper based ternary chalcogenides, with a discussion of our hypotheses proposing reactive species and relevant reaction paramaters.
