Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the harmful greenhouse gases on earth. Visible light-responsive cuprous oxide (Cu2O) is suitable for photocatalytic reduction CO2 to useful fuel or valuable hydrocarbon. We utilized traditional thermal condensation to form gCN, and aqueous chemical synthesis to obtain Cu2O/gCN composite. Cu2O crystals with various shapes such as cube, dodecahedron, and sphere, were successfully fabricated and deposited on gCN. The formation of heterojunction between graphitic carbon nitride (gCN) and Cu2O improves electron/hole separation and increases the conversion from CO2. The effects of Cu2O morphology and loading amount on the photocatalytic activity of composites were evaluated. A temperature programmed desorption (TPD) technique was also applied to evaluate the capability of CO2 adsorption on Cu2O/gCN composite and their active sites.
