Hybrid films aim to combine properties of different materials. In this study, we use the cellulose nanofibers’ ability to create films and we incorporate functional particles in the fibers network. The goal is to create new functional materials for high added-value applications like smart packaging, super-hydrophobic interactions or drug release.<br/>The incorporation of lignin particles in the nanocellulose films is studied as it can create fully bio-sourced and bio-degradable films. Spherical lignin particles obtained with an aerosol flow reactor are used. They show good mechanical integrity and are well dispersible in water. Different mixing processes are used and films are processed by solvent casting. The cellulose nanofibers network is utilized to trap the lignin particles and disperse them on the surface. The lignin particles ranging from hundred nanometers to the micrometer size create a rough surface, optical 3D measurement are done to measure the roughness. To have a super-hydrophobic surface, metallic nanoparticles are incorporated by synthetizing them directly on the cellulose nano-fibers. This will add a nano-sized roughness on the film surface. The first experiments show promising result for the next steps. Lignin also has inherent anti-oxidant property hence DPPH test has been performed on the films.<br/>
