A series of meso-substituted metalloporphyrins were designed, synthesized, purified, and characterized. Meso-tetrakis (4-hydroxyphenyl) porphyrin was etherified to flexible alkyl spacers terminated in a cyclohexyl ester in a three-step synthetic scheme. The phase behavior of the free-base porphyrin and metalloporphyrin analogs was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and polarized optical microscopy.
