Oxidation of organic compounds is one of the most important chemical transformations in nature that is carried out by enzymes. Galactose alcohol oxidase (GAO) is one of the metalloenzymes that catalytically oxidizes alcohols to aldehydes with O2 under mild reation conditions. GAO’s active center is a mononuclear copper(II) complex with a redox-active phenoxy ligand1. In this research presentation our lab pulls inspiration from the GAO active center, where we performed a comprehensive study on a new series of first row transition metal redox-active complexes stabilized by H-bonding interaction that are able to perform aerobic oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes.
