Polymers or macromolecules with topologies other than linear have attracted lots of interests on account of their unique properties that are based on their structural characteristics. Herein we described a novel strategy to construct topology controllable polymers or macromolecules, which can be reversibly switched between cyclic and triarm star-shaped topology via redox stimulus. <br/> <br/>The key point of this strategy is exploiting [c3] daisy chains as building blocks. We designed a hermaphroditic molecule which can spontaneously and selectively self-assemble into intertwined [c3] daiy chains at reduced condition on account of radical host-guest pairing interactions. This radical [c3] daiy chains can undergo reversible “extension-contraction” movement by redox stimulus. When long polymeric chains with recognition sites near the bulky end groups were grafted to the radical [c3] daisy chains, triarm star shaped macromolecules/polymers were obtained with high efficiency. This triarm star shape macromolecules/polymers can be switched into cyclic topology at oxidized states due to the recognition between the cyclophane and the second binding sites. We believe our strategy can provide new inspirations for the synthesis of cyclic polymers/macromolecule and topology switchable polymers/macromolecule.<br/>
