Efficient electricity storage and distribution are major challenges for an energy economy diversifying from fossil fuels. For applications that benefit from fast charge-discharge cycles or high burst power, supercapacitor materials with high surface areas and accessible redox couples are ideal. Inspired by layered chalcogenides such as MoS2, we approach this issue by synthesizing ternary chalcogenide nanoparticles and optimizing their integration. Here we report on a more general approach to the synthesis of Cu2MX4 (X = S, Se and M = Mo, W) compositions at nanoscale together with electrochemical assessment of these materials as promising supercapacitor medium.
