Heterobimetallic rhodium-aluminum and iridium-aluminum complexes containing pyridone moieties are shown to react with hydrogen to generate the corresponding alkane. Experimental mechanistic data suggests a role for both metal centers in the reaction. Corresponding computational data supports cooperation between the transition metal and aluminum in the key hydrogen splitting step.<br/>
